2. Tournament Field and Structure

We hope to have a tournament field of at least forty (40) teams, including twenty (20) varsity teams and twenty (20) junior varsity teams. The tournament will consist of a morning round robin set of matches that will determine seeding for the afternoon playoff rounds. The playoff rounds will be single elimination.

3. Format

We will use the National Academic Quiz Tournament (NAQT) format for this tournament. Rules can be found at www.naqt.com. While we are using the NAQT format, as of September 13th, 2006, we are undecided on whether the tournament questions will be purchased from NAQT or written in-house. If the questions are purchased directly from NAQT, the top finishers of the Varsity tournament (the top %15) will qualify for the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament to be held at an unannounced location as of September 13th, 2006. If the questions are written in-house, then top finishers will be considered for wild-card bids into the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament.

4. Registration Fees

NOTE: THE BASE REGISTRATION FEE FOR THIS YEAR'S TOURNAMENT IS NOW $60 PER TEAM SENT. A five-dollar discount PER TEAM, PER BUZZER SYSTEM will be given if your school provides buzzer system(s) for the tournament. The maximum buzzer discount is $10 per team for two buzzer systems. Registration fees are to be submitted by mail to the address above by November 6th. NOTE: A team is NOT registered until payment AND registration forms are received.

5. Eligibility

The Varsity division is open to any student from your school, but is intended for more experienced players. NOTE: THE JV ELIGIBILITY RULES HAVE CHANGED FOR THIS YEAR. JV teams may now have TWO Juniors playing at any time during a match. Seniors may NOT compete in the JV tournament under ANY circumstance. You may have more than two Juniors on your JV team, but ONLY TWO may be playing at any time.

6. Cancellation

In the event of an emergency, a team that cancels will be refunded their totals for the tournament. Other refund considerations for cancellation will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In general, however, if your team cancels after submitting registration fees, we will retain the registration fee and it will not be refunded unless a prior arrangement is made.

7. Spectators

Schools are encouraged to bring other students, parents, and teachers with your teams to support your players. These spectators may also be asked to volunteer as scorekeepers, should the need arise. We will NOT have in-house scorekeepers for this tournament, so spectators should expect to be asked to volunteer in this regard.
